B-More Dog

Baltimore Dog Owners Guild

You and your dog can Do More. You and your dog can Be More.

B-More Dog (short for Baltimore Dog Owners Guild) is an outreach and education organization created after a group of individuals came together in the fall of 2007 to speak out against breed specific legislation being proposed in Baltimore County.

That legislation, which would have required all pit bull owners to muzzle their dogs and confine them in locked kennels, was not passed. Still, many of us felt that we needed to do more to help the American pit bull terrier regain its status as a valuable working dog and cherished family pet. So we formed B-More Dog to reach out to those who share our goals: To help others become more responsible dog owners and to improve the image of the pit bull in our communities.

Pit bulls and their owners are fighting for their rights and reputations right now. Pit bulls face abuse, neglect, torture, and overbreeding by people who do not have the dogs' best interests at heart; their owners face negative stereotypes and prejudices, simply because they choose to own pit bulls. B-More Dog's board and members are responsible dog owners, and our goal is to encourage other dog owners to be responsible for their pets as well. We hope that through education, mentoring, and outreach, we can help pit bull owners become better ambassadors for our breed and eventually reduce some of the misunderstandings about pit bulls and the people who love them.

Our Programs

B-More In Control

B-More Dog is getting ready to launch its first free class for dog owners in Baltimore City. The class, called B-More In Control, will cover basic dog handling, behavior, care, and training. We’ll also offer a brief primer on animal-control laws in the city. The goal is to reach people who are having problems controlling or caring for their dogs. With the help of a guest trainer, we'll offer advice and solutions to common problems. Have a dog that keeps jumping the backyard fence? Have problems with the neighbors who are complaining about your dog running at large? Did you recently receive a notice from animal control, letting you know that you may be in danger of receiving a fine? Come to our class and we’ll talk about things you can do to make life easier for you—and your dog. We’ll have free dog-food samples, handouts, pens, and coupons from local trainers offering discounts for people who attend this class.

Pit Bull 101

Scheduled to launch in August 2009 at BARCS, the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (with more locations in the future), B-More Dog is offering a free seminar explaining everything you ever wanted to know about Pit Bulls. We will dispel the myths about our misunderstood breed and explain its history. This seminar is for new Pit Bull adopters, potential Pit Bull adopters, shelter staff and volunteers and anyone interested in learning the truth about Pit Bulls.

B-More Humane

B-More Dog wants to reach the youth of Baltimore with the anti-dog fighting message, as well teach proper care for and safety around dogs. B-More Humane is still in the planning stage. We are always looking for more volunteers with experience working with children to help us with this initiative. If you are interested, please contact us today: bmoredog@gmail.com
